I will be honest, I am not one for surprises. Why? I am one of those individuals who likes to plan right down to the right detail, but deep down I am a bit fearful of the surprise, because when I was younger, I had relatives who liked to pull pranks. However, sometimes the surprises are good, like last weekend.

After talking to many Japanese on the largest cultural exchange app in the world, I was not feeling like I was going to meet any more of them any time soon. Nevertheless, I prayed, went into English Conversation with a positive attitude, and suddenly I recognised a name of one of the Japanese I had talked to. She had come along!

Somethimes we can feel downhearted about the things we achieve for God. None knew this better than the disciples who were told by Jesus of His impending death. It's understandable they would feel grief, confusion and a sense of fear, as well as thinking that all Jesus had done for His people would not amount for much.

Then the big surprise came after Jesus' death. He rose again! But, it was not just His resurrection that was not the only surprise. It was the triumph over death, sin and the Devil, that would pave the way for what would come many days later, the gift of the Holy Spirit. When they reflected later on, all the had lost had been for a bigger gain.

God is always has a surprise for us, but sometimes they are so small we can't see them. The next time you feel a little disappointed, remember that God never forgets, and that surprise might be just around the corner.
