I love to collect things, we all have that one or in my case, a few. One that I did accumulate was Mats Jonasson crystals, which were before Swarovski was a thing. The difference with Mats Jonasson is, that he only designs scenery, animals and other interesting designs, with intricate detail to bring each one to life. Some of my pieces are limitied edition and a few I have given away as gifts over the years.
One particular favourite, is a nativity scene that is there all year round. But in the Christmas month, it is alight in the evening. When I look at it, I remind myself of the bible verse in John 8:12 "I am the light of the world. Whomever follows me will not walk in darkness, but will have the light of life" (NIV). Little did Mary know in the scene (pictured below), that her little light would shake the world and change it forever.
Jesus became the ultimate gift for all humanity, and one we can never repay. His simple life, born in humblest of places, became the character for His life on earth. He loved without measure, bore all the disgraces levelled at Him (though He had not sinned), and served with mercy, to turn humanity back to right relationship with God. His death and resurrection freed us all from the sting of death and sin for all time.
Jesus was given gifts (gold, frankincense and myrrh) symbolic of His royal status amongst other things. But though they have immense value, it is this little baby that came into the world over 2,000 years ago that is still is the gift without price. May His love surround everyone this Christmas, that His peace will be over all of your households over this season and into 2025.
