I tried to send a recipe to a friend of mine and to my horror, when I checked my book, it was missing some very important details. The ingredients! While we can make up the details to create fantastic culinary meals, the ingredients are essential to ensure the taste delights us.  This is important in the Christian life as well. Every aspect of the Christian Walk benefits us physically, mentally and spiritually and others that we come into contact every day!

Like the recipe, knowing how to make something is part of the process, but not the entirety of it. It is important to remember to be our most authentic selves both to God and to everyone, so all can see that Jesus is reflected in our lives. We are to be not only the light, but an aroma that is pleasant to all who come to accept Him. No half-heartedness in our part, but a whole-hearted commitment to walk with Jesus every day.

While we can try and pretend to create a right living approach, it would be exhausting and lack meaning. I could have tried to fix the recipe, but it would be disastrous and not fulfilling. God desires to live as His son Jesus did and seek the Holy Spirit to be our guide each day, to bless Him and to bless others. It is not a complicated recipe, when we seek His kingdom every moment of our lives. It is healthy for you and me.

Unlike the recipes, there is only one way to God. Jesus says “I am the way, the truth and the life” (John 14:6). The ingredients though, help bring our lives together. Reading the bible, praying at any time, spending time with others and our Christian family, being in worship however that looks, volunteering in ministry and living out God’s mission are all important. It might sound like a lot, but when we leave it to God to help us find the way for us, the ultimate recipe is being joyous in God’s Kingdom together.
