The Art of Contentment

I read Philippians chapter 4 recently and there are many nuggets of wisdom that can dug from there, but one that leapt out is the art of being content. Now I am not talking about the pasted on "fake it 'till you make it" kind of contentment, but the true, deep kind that comes from being close to God. The Apostle Paul, despite his sufferings in much of his missionary journeys, declared "I have learned the secret of being content in any and every situation whether living in plenty or in want. I can do all this through Him who gives me strength" (Philippians 4:12-13 NIV).

Paul knows, as I do, that there are days we will not be dancing around the house. We have all been there! But our happiness does not come from any source we have on earth. Only a relationship with God can provide the kind of joy and contentment we desire. When we have that strength, then we are in the position to help others to do the same. Our loving God wants us to share this good news with everyone, having this kind of contentment in our lives is too good to keep to ourselves. Let us help others to learn this art today!
