What the locusts have eaten...

I worked in Children's Ministry and created bible flash cards, wondering what to put for the bible book of Joel. It was a good opportunity to read it and tells the story of destruction, yet ends with hope and redemption. Joel 2:25-26 says "I will repay you for the years the locusts have eaten, the great locust and the young locust, the other locusts and the locust swarm my great army that I sent among you. You will have plenty to eat, until you are full, and you will praise the name of the Lord your God, who has worked wonders for you; never again will my people be shamed".
The reassurance God has for restoring His people, is still a promise for today. In a world where greed and sin rule, it is like the locusts that steal and destroy a potential harvest. We can trust that God will always keep His promises and protect us. The ultimate promise came when Jesus, who came into the world, died for all humanity to bridge the divide between us and God. We have the freedom to walk with God in His kingdom, serving and loving Him, sharing all we have in community.
After reading Joel 2:25-26, it gives me peace to know, that despite the losses in my life, God can and does restore in His own way and timing, It may not always appear as we like, but God is merciful, loving, works out of time, is all powerful and all present. No matter what we go with on life's journey, it is not the locusts that will triumph, it is God who is our strong tower, died for us, triumphed over death and sin, and gifted us with His spirit. When we read His word, we can always have comfort and share the love among all.
